Your dog doesn’t need to be perfectly trained to be beautifully photographed.
One of the most common things I hear from dog parents in Flagstaff is, “I love the idea of photos, but my dog won’t sit still.”
Here’s the good news: that’s completely okay — and honestly, expected.
As a Flagstaff dog photographer, my sessions are designed to be relaxed, and focused on capturing your dog exactly as they are. Each dog is different, so I might recommend an indoor or outdoor session depending on their personality.
Here’s how to prepare — without stress.
Flagstaff Dog Photo Session Tips
1. Choose Comfort Over Perfection
The best dog photos happen when your dog feels safe and happy.
Skip grooming appointments the same day if your dog hates them
Bring a familiar leash or harness
- Arrive 30 minutes prior to the shoot to let your dog stretch it’s legs and to sniff the area
Don’t worry about perfect obedience — movement is beautiful
2. Bring a Few Favorite Treats (and Toys)
Treats (or their favorite toy) are your secret weapon.
I’ll guide you on when to use them, and we keep things fun and low-pressure. Some dogs prefer toys, others just want praise — we follow their lead.
3. Dress Yourself Simply
Neutral, earthy tones photograph beautifully in Northern Arizona.
Think:
Creams, tans, soft blues
Avoid neon, heavy logos, or busy patterns
Your outfit should support the story — not distract from it.
4. Trust the Process
Every dog is different.
Some dogs sprint. Some sniff. Some sit proudly.
My job is to watch, anticipate, and capture the moments that feel like them.
Those are the photos you’ll treasure.
